Trying to install RH 8.

Hey there. When I load the boot disc I get to the screen that says 'Hit enter for a graphical installation.' After hitting enter, the program displays its analysis of my system's components. The next screen is a window that says, 'Initializing PC Card Device...' That's where the installation hangs. I've tried rebooting, I've tried opting for a text installation, and I've tried selecting different options at the 'Hit enter for a graphical installation' screen. I am using a Toshiba Satellite (laptop) 335CDS; it's about 4.5 years old. Thanks for the help.

Which pc cards do you have in there? Have you been to the manufacturers site to see if it is supported under RH8/Linux?

You could also run a search under Google to see if it has been installed before by someone else and how they did it.

There is a site called Linux For Laptops - can't remember the address - who should be of some help.

If you want to run linux in Graphical mode, you need atleast 64mb of ram to be safe, ofcourse the more the better. I have 64 and couldn't install using the GUI so i had to use the text one, which i might add was not hard at all. It was very simple, just very long.

If you have an AGP-based video card, you may need to enable support in your BIOS for AGP. Not enabling this might cause your system to freeze.
