Trouble connecting to my network on liberte, linux noob, ifconfig/netstat provided

running liberte from live usb, everything is running smooth but network is unreachable

when i ping google's ip i get:

connect: network is unreachable

ifconfig -a reads:

Warning: cannot open /proc/net/dev (No such file or directory). Limited output.
lo Link encap:Local Loopback
inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1

netstat -nr reads:

/proc/net/route: No such file or directory
INET (IPv4) not configured in this system.

new to linux, sorry if i've got the wrong sub forum, but i've tried running ubuntu before without issue so i figured it might be a liberte thing

Does your router filter MAC addresses? Liberte randomizes MAC addresses and if your router filters them, then it's not going to let you in.

Your post shows that you are not running as root user. You'll need to do this to get the modified MAC address:

1. Reboot Liberte.
2. Within 2 minutes, Logout to shell, click Alt-F2, and enter "okroot".
3. Run ifconfig and it will now show you the MAC address (HWaddr) that Liberte assigned.
4. Configure your router to allow that MAC address.
5. Click Alt-F1 and then Ctrl-D to restart X-windows.
6. You now also have root access in a terminal window. Enter "su" and then "liberte" for the password.

Unfortunately, the above needs to be done each time Liberte is booted. If it's feasible in your environment, turn off MAC filtering in your router.

Good luck!

No, sorry, my router does not filter any MACs. It is a typical Linksys router with mostly default settings.
