Tri-Quad-Pent-Booting

I am at the point where i need to try different distros. i want to have like 5 distros running. im just not shure about the partitioning. im going to have a swap partition, boot, and home. And plan on running GRUB. My question is do i need seperate partitions for each distro or can i install them all on one partition?

Hi and welcome to LQ! you should have searched, for I have asked this VERY recently.
nevermind, here's the tip.

YES you need a separate partition for some stuff...
you need a / for each distro- make it extended.
use cfdisk on knoppix to partition your drive.
you can share data by setting up /usr /home and /tmp partitions.
you need a swap partition - like double the size of your ram.

what distros do you want to install? I am in the process of getting slackware, debian, vector and X (possibly mandrake, or maybe something else...) as well as Windows 2000

slackware is great for setting up GRUB. Check out my bookmarks for some good links in my multibooting adventures...

You say slack is good for grub? when i installed 10.1 it installed lilo automadically. but then again i will try it again. and some of the distros i want to try are, slack, gentoo, knoppix, and maby one other one.

well, I told it not to install lilo. I like grub better. :) Slack rocks in letting you actually use your computer. Struggling with Debian right now.

The reasons I chose my distros were: I wanted to have a slackware based, debian based, and rpm based linuxes. That and CD availability. vector is a one cd download, debian netinstall is one CD, I had the slackware 10 CD's (magazine) and the Mandrake 10 CD's (magazine)
