The best web server

A while a ago, I read an article that suggested Debian to be the best distro to run as a web server. However, many companies use Red Hat and CentOS as web servers. Now, with Peppermint design to be cloud/web application centric. Which distro to run as a jsp/servlet server?

Thanks in advance,

Either is realistically fine. use what you're happiest with.

Hi Mike,
For what it's worth, Debian was recently voted the "server distro of the year" here at LinuxQuestions:

One reason why some companies choose Red Hat Enterprise Linux instead of Debian is that Red Hat offers paid support subscriptions (Debian does not). Red Hat also has a much longer life cycle for each release compared with Debian. CentOS is popular because it offers compatibility with Red Hat but is free of charge.

Hope that clears it up! All of the above are excellent options, you could flip a coin. :)

Peppermint aim at people who want to use the web for applications, etc, not at those who want to create a server! As the other posters say, any good distro will do: the differences between them tend to disappear when you aren't using X.

If you use CentOS (the DVD, not the CD) the installer has a custom option which starts by asking what sort of computer setup you want, including basic server, database server, or web-server. That makes things easy for you!
