I've just installed SuSE 9.1 pro and after changing horizontal and vertical refresh rates of my monitor, suddenly I am only using the central part of my screen (big black area around desktop). I could stretch it up with the buttons on my monitor, but that would be very unconfortable for my other distros. What can I have done wrong and how can I fix it?

Possibly SuSE has the physical dimensions of your screen wrong. Try specifying your screen characteristics by hand. Run sax2. Go to 'monitor' and click on 'properties' and then 'expert' tab to enter
'Check desktopGeometry' values. Also go to 'Colour and Resolution' to set up colour bit and resolution. Save and exit sax2. Reboot system or restart X server.
See if you can get your monitor set up working correctly with the sax2 expert mode.
Well it could be that you entered the wrong vert and horiz rates for the monitor you are using. What monitor exactly are you using, and what are the relevant sections of your xorgconf (or XF86Config) file? Also, you didn't indicate if it was working OK before you made the changes. If so, can you just change it back? -- J.W.
I've got the right rates alright. Got the manual in front of me. Don't know what monitor it is however. It's only got the shop's logo and the manual doesn't mention it, only gives technical specs and some setup instructions.
Everything was working 'fine' before I made any changes, just that the screen was blinking too much for my eye's comfort. The changes have been a bit difficult , because when I try to change screen resolution it changes, but doesn't allow me to change back to what I had. I have to exit thensetup, get back in and try again. That'¡s when all the trouble started.
I've only used the suse graphical config tool, but I'll have a look at XF86CONF now that you mention it...
