SuSe 9 kernel update, 'desktop' now?

Hi People who know more about Linux than I,

Now that SuSE has released (and I have installed) their 2.4.21-144-athlon kernel (and another generic kernel update), should I be passing 'desktop' to the kernel at boot again (/boot/grub/menu.lst)?

I was just looking around the SuSE site and I did not see any answers.

Dropping this parameter made my system usable, which it was not with the default.

I will eventually just try it and see, but if someone knew the answer from a technical standpoint, I would appreciate the input.

C
