Suse 9.1 Screen saver unlock & audio problems.

Hello ,:(

I'm using Suse 9.1 on a Packard bell easynote E3242 & i have a problem after updating the kernel last week. Updated my system to the most recent updates using both YAST & apt get, the problem is, now if I either lock the screen or the screen saver comes on, I cannot log back in. I can type the password in but clicking okay or pressing enter does nothying. Not even an error. The only way past this is either to ctrl+alt+bkspace or to log in as another user. has anyone seen this behavior before. please be gentle with the solution if there is one as I am very new with linux:newbie: :study: But learning relatively fast:) so please go gently. Please help this one is drivin me nuts as to why it stopped working. Also I have another problem with my sound almost everytime i boot I have to turn up my volume using alsamixer. For some reason the driver thinks it's a via sound card so viadx in alsa is the control once set it stays untill i reboot.

TIA.
