SuSE 9.0 no sound from audio cd's
I've just installed SuSE9.0, kernal 2.4.21-99 on a Gateway 310, 2.4 GHz Pentium 4, 256MB RAM, with an 82801DB AC'97 Audio Controller, an HL-DT-STDVD-ROM GDR8161B, and an HL-DT-ST GCE-8481B CD-burner. Sound works fine on everything EXCEPT audio cd's. No matter what audio player I use, it correctly detects the inserted audio cd, does a cddb-lookup, and shows the tracks, and plays the cd, except I get no audio. The following is the result of modprobe -c | grep snd:
alias char-major-116 snd alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0 alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0 alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-11 snd-mixer-oss alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss options snd-intel8x0 snd_ac97_clock=0 snd_enable=1 snd_index=0 options snd snd_cards_limit=1 snd_major=116 In Control Center, under audio cd's, cd device is set to determine device automatically, and under sound I/O method is autodetect, changing either has no effect. Everything else is working great. I can rip and encode cd's and play ogg and mp3 off of data cd's and disk files, but still no sound from audio cd's. I hear sound for everything except audio cd's. Does anyone have any clues? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Corso |
I was able to get xmms to play audio cd's by configuring the audio cd player plugin module to use digital audio extraction. Thanks for the emails!
