SuSE 9.0 freezes during install on desktop

hey - i had no problems installing SuSE 9.0 on my Dell Laptop, but now i've tried several times to install SuSE on my desktop and it keeps freezing. i did have an USB hub hooked up and a USB mouse, so i took the hub off and used an adapter for the usb mouse to the normal mouse port (dont know what thats called) and reinstalled 3 times. still no luck. i do have win XP installed on one partition using FAT, and the rest of my HD is unpartitioned. It freezes every time when "Evaluating Package Selection" what's going on? all i have is a keyboard, mouse (with adapter now), ethernet. and monitor hooked up. the printer, digicam, and Treo handheld cable is hooked up to the usb hub, which is disconnected. i can't figure out why this is happening.

Cd or DVD? If its dvd, switch to cd's because your computer has a bad dvd drive and it spins down and linux cant get it to respond... if your using the cd's.. this is an odd problem. :p

I'm not sure if this works under install thats becaurse i never trieded it at that time but its wurth to try do a ctrl alt F10 before it freezes .On an installed box it let you see what the system is doing if it works [as i mentioned i never done it during install so it might not even work ] it might shine a light or what piece of hardware it is freezing .

cd's... strange thing, really. i left it alone, didnt do anything, went out for an hour and half. came back and it was ready to install. it installed reallllllllyyyyyy slowly... took maybe 2 hours to finish installing it. i think their server (www.oregonstate.edu/pub/suse/suse/i386/current) was messed up or something? i downloaded and burnt a cd, started an network install via ftp with auto dhcp configuration, no to http protocol, signed in as guest (which is the exact same network address, setting, etc as my laptop) thanks for your help anyways.

now if only i could get vmware, a dvd ripper that encodes vob files and also rips iso's for playstation 2 cd/dvd's, and my port replicator working...
