For the plain Jane look, have you tried Windowmanager or blackbox?
I'm practicing configurations on DV workstaions for several different versions of linux... So I'm trying to customise as much as possible... that's what really sprang the issue.
I've got a similar question -- during login, the image for my regular user ID is a stupid ladybug insect thing. How can I replace it with something else? -- J.W.
