Alright, I'm using SuSE 8.0 and I would like to update to SuSE 9.0 via FTP install. I don't know how to do this myself but I think my brother knows how. Anyways, I was wondering...if I update, will I lose everything I have on 8.0? I need to make sure because i want to know if I need to make backups.
Only thing that *should* happen if you truely upgrade is you shoudl get newer versions of a lot of the packages you have. It shouldn't do anything to your configurations and it shouldn't touch any of your personal stuff.
Well, I just upgraded from 8.2 to 9.0 without any serious hitches. I did it through YAST. Not sure if the option is there in 8.0 though. In 8.2 under Software in YAST, there is "System Update" and you can choose to update packages you have installed, or do a default update. That'll bring you up to 9.0. The only issues I had were some menu/taskbar icons dissapearing, and a much slower boot time now which I'm still trying fix. (I think it has something to do with the plugger & hw scans)
