Hi all,
I need the help of a Suse expert. I have newly installed Suse 8.0 and all is OK except for the modem/browser linkup.
I have tried with Kppp and Kinternet, both connect with my ISP OK but none of the desktop applications can join the net. I get the message "Unknown host . . . etc. . The only clue I can find in the Help mentions that perhaps I have selected Auto Config Host during the set-up, which is not so.
During my search I have seen the message "No name server found in /etc/resolv.conf" which is a directory. Does anybody know how I can rectify this? I shal be grteful for any advice.
One other thing. In the Suse Tour, and in the sales docs FlightGear is listed as one of the apps in the OS but I can't find it, even using the search facility of YaST. Any Ideas?
without wanting to sound patronising.. the message says there are no name servers found in /etc/resolv.conf. this is a text file which contains ip addresses for name servers, so you need to add at least one....
Even if you are connected in a LAN with a current DNS you must select in the kppp menu the option to use ISP's DNS server and overwrite the current one.
Or you can do it manually by adding the nameserver of the ISP
Not at all condescending, thanks for replying. As I had set up kppp and kinternet I thought that all the necessary file entries had been made, especially as both can connect OK with my ISP.
/etc/resolv.conf remains an empty directory and I can find no howto, man entry, or info which helps. How can I add a name source, and what form does it take? IP or text name?
As you may have guessed, I am completely new to Linux!
