Support for Distro

Hi...

I need Fedora or CentOS/Scientific Linux ( any RHEL clone thing ) Linux in a box...

I am considering installing FC 14, or CentOS 5.5/SL 5.5 in that box...

My question is, which one will be supported Longer...? The SL 5.5/CentOS 5.5 thing or the FC 14 thing...?

RHEL 6 won't be released soon, and so wont their upstream clones CentOS 6 / SL 6....

BRGDS

Alex

fedora 13 (f13 - there has been no "FC" release for a while now) has the shortest release cycle of your choices.

CentOS is pretty much the same as RHEL.
RHEL6 has been tipped for the end of this year. Server releases have longer cycles than desktop releases.

I'd normally suggest CentOS from that collection, unless you want to take advantage of RH commercial support. Exactly what you do depends on your need.

Hi Alex, all Fedora releases get roughly 13 months of support, this means Fedora 14 will be supported until the end of 2011.

I assume CentOS follows the RHEL support cycle, which is multi-tiered. You can read about it here: http://www.redhat.com/security/updates/errata/

RHEL 6 is probably coming in the next month or two...
