SuperX OS

So, was browsing DistroWatch and I saw this. The screenshots look attractive, but they don't say anywhere on their page, is this yet another slightly modified Ubuntu calling itself a distribution, or is it actually it's own distro?

functionally illiterate?

If you read the page for it on Distrowatch, it clearly states that it is Ubuntu based in the header description.

Then below, the text on the distros begins:
Super OS (formerly Super Ubuntu) is a modified version of Ubuntu with the goal of making it more usable, in particular for users without an internet connection, while trying to remain compatible with Ubuntu. Features compared to Ubuntu include better multimedia support, improved Internet experience (aMSN, Opera, Flash), App Runner, and other software, such as Java, Ubuntu Tweak and live USB creator.

Super OS is not the same thing as SuperX although they both appear to be based upon Ubuntu according to DistroWatch. I also could not find anything on their website except for their FAQ "SuperX is a computer operating system (OS) based on GNU and the Linux kernel".

Correnction: I did find in their documentation that SuperX is based on Ubuntu and thus, is based on Debian.

Re:read and find the right page..

I trusted distrowatch search. I should know better, but I went back and found the REAL page and it is much the same:
OS Type: Linux
Based on: Debian, Ubuntu (LTS)
Origin: India
Architecture: i386, x86_64
Desktop: KDE
Category: Beginners, Desktop, Live Medium
Status: Active
Popularity: 117 (113 hits per day)

Another Ubuntu spawn.

At one time you could get out a list of all the distros based upon Debian, and it was a huge list. Now, if you filter out the Ubuntu spawn, it is a short list. In researching this I discovered at least two that I have never tried, based upon Debian Testing, that look worth trying. Time to track down those USB keys.....

Based on: Debian, Ubuntu (LTS)

This is why I asked. I don't mind distro's based on debian, but distro's based on Ubuntu I just avoid, along with the parent distro. Not that I have anything against canonical per-se, but I find that I'd rather run base Debian than anything they release.

Out of curiosity, what's the 2 distro's you found that you were interested in?

What I missed...

Antix - which seems odd to have missed. I do spend less time in live-cd space, but this is one I am surprised I missed. While I use TineyCore, DSL, and Puppy often, I try to keep my eye on live and rescue distros. It appears to run the latest kernel.

Sparkylinux - which appears to be more desktop on hard drive oriented. This is something I am more likely to run every day, but I will need to take it for a spin to be sure. It worries me a bit that it seems to lack the support for XFS and BTRFS I would have expected, but since I only use those for special cases anyway....

Surprising you have missed AntiX, a friend of mine swears by AntiX.

Never actually used Sparky, I've seen it before, but never used it.
