Mandrake 8.2 seems to have problems with accessing the CD-ROM every now and then. Eg. Sometimes you can access/see the files and directories and somtimes you can't.
I didn't have this type of problem with Mandrake 8.0, but I do with 8.2 on two different machines (with different hardware).

That sounds like a possible hardware problem. Maybe you can take appart the CD-ROM and blast it with air or something else that is ozone-friendly.
Don't worry I've reinstalled Mandy 8.0 and don't have the problem any more. I think it's probably because of the differences in the fstab file (located in the /etc directory). Here's the contents of the fstab on Mandy 8.0.
