Spanish support

What other distors besides Ubuntu have support for Spanish built in? Mepis allows a language option upon installing but is incomplete; many kde and other menus remain in English. Or might I have to download something to make other distors completely Spanish? this would be for a desktop pc dual boot (w/ Windows), on an older machine (8-10 years?).

AFAIK all mainstream distros should. As for native support Spain seems to be the only country where whole cities and autonomous communities issue distros but how about say Trisquel?

You will always have a few problems, because it's the developers of the desktops and programs who have to arrange the translating, and it's a lot of work. The other day some-one asked "How do I get Claws-mail to work in Dutch?" and the answer was "You can't."

It's probably better to get a European distro, rather than a US one like Mepis. Mint is produced by a Frenchman in Ireland, so that might be good!

Hi dogpatch, just saw your email

Almost every mainstream distro I've tried has had good Spanish support: Debian (which is what I mostly use), Ubuntu, openSuSE, Fedora (though it's been a while since I tried Fedora), Arch, etc., all of them have good Spanish support. On some distros you possibly have to install some language packages after installing the OS. For example, I recently installed LMDE and LibreOffice is in English, so I have to install the language package for it (I haven't done it yet ,since I've been a bit busy and lazy).

Remember that when installing the OS you must select Spanish as the main system language so everything defaults to Spanish.

Good luck!

That's true. Spanish is, after all, the second most widely used language after English. The ALT distro has all its documentation in Russian, but the actual software comes in Russian, Ukranian, Tatar, English, and Spanish!

Thanks all. Have marked this as solved, and will proceed accordingly.
