i'd use the Alsa driver if your not. then install alsaguimixer from the CDs, this is what i used for mandrake. Turn off ditigal (towards the end) turn up all WAVS, turn up the master, input(if you have something to input). mess with them to get 5.1 working right.
What are you using to play sound? Are you running XMMS or another player? If XMMS, you should be able to open your Equalizer and mess with the settings there for CDs and mp3s as well. Hope this helps.
I was looking as controlling the sound for xine (DVD) , well all sound I guess.
I've not used XMMS yet. I'll try it.
As for the ALSAGUI, I only had the downloaded version. I'll have a look for it.
