Well, it seems that you actually installed successfully both times. I'm not really good with either suse nor ubuntu but I guess you could try this:

1. Did you configure your X server? It's usually done with
Code:
# xorgconfig
although I think you shouldn't do it manually in an automated distro such as ubuntu. You could also post your bootup log. (command is dmesg)

2. You shouldn't probably do stuff in failsafe mode if it is what I imagine it is. If it's for correcting immidient problems which there is no other access to I mean. Why do you think it's acpi problem? How far does it boot? I'd also like a dmesg here.

Sorry I didn't provide any clear answers, more information would be useful in this case.

Thank u for ur interest and time
well gotto know bout it wen i tried 2 install suse 10.1 n kubuntu.....it said teres a prob wit ur acpi module so try wit tat disabled....so did tat...i tot ubuntu was automated enuf 2 do it on its own.....will post the bootup log shortly....

kubuntu sample error msg goes like this ( not exact)-
[some number like 55.23445... or so] ata module timeout sys_halt sys_status 0x_21x....

its either ata or acpi....

well diff distros go 2 diff levels....
ubuntu witout the xserver goes into command prompt ( live cd i mean)
suse 10.2 until a package dependency problem starts...it actually OKs the dependencies while selecting tem but then this happens....
kubuntu wont go beyond mounting root f/s ( a prob wit the ata driver)

one thing tat i din get was wen tat package dependency prob came up n it restarted the installation it din even work in failsafe mode....
can u tell me y?

well as far as my understandin of failsafe mode goes i think, lukin at the parameters it passes 2 the kernel, it disables acpi, apm,n reduces the wait time for ne module tat isn't installin properly....
tat is y i started installin suse10.2 in the failsafe mode....

sorry am in a hurry...cunt give the full detail....will post it tmrw...
