I have a Tiger dual mpx mobo, two amd mp 2000+ cpus (1.67Ghz each) sound blaster live value card, geforce three. onboard nic card 3com.
I installed slack 8.1 on my new dually system, Find it has no smp enabled in the kernel, so I compile the newest kernel 2.4.19 (stable).Run make menuconfig, toggle the smp and other things, nothing unneeded, exit.
make clean && make dep && make bzImage && make modules && make modules_install.
take bzImage and load it in lilo. reboot everything is fine gets to shell, i can use the shell without anything freezing. start kde and it freezes, sometimes I cant get out but to turn the computer off. I have also tryed recompiling the default bare.i 2.4.18 kernel and get the same problem. I believe slack 8.1 is using xfree86 4.2.0 and running kde 3.0.1. Any Ideas why? I have searched high and low, every where for answers.
Sorry for my ignorance, am still new to this stuff.
Seems that it is only freezing when playing sound or trying to play sound. that is why it would freeze sometimes when kde 3 was starting cause it is trying to play something but when i try to play xmms it freezes hard
So i went to /var/log/syslog
in there this is what it said times and dates are correct for the time i was accessing it.

Any ideas? If it is a module problem andyone know where to get sound-slot-0?
just for the record, don't double (triple) post again. why did you not bother to read the rules you agreed to? did you seriously enjoy having to copy both replies out 3 times?
