I'd just like to clarify something quickly: at the moment, I have a router with an inbuilt modem which is what provides the (wireless/ethernet) connection to my adsl line. What I would like to do is put either IPCop or Smoothwall onto an old-ish computer and use that as the gateway. I assume that with IPSec/Smoothwall I would be able to do all the normal things like connect to my adsl via PPPoA, and have extra security with the firewall, MAC address filtering, etc...
Also, which distro would you recommend, Smoothwall or IPCop? At Distrowatch, Smoothwall's at a mere 86th position, whereas IPCop is at 33rd, so I think I'll probably end up going with IPCop...

P.S If I did install IPCop onto an old computer, this would be the network's setup:
It looks as though your plan is flawless. I would definately choose IPCOP over anything else. I've worked with it and seen it in production action!!! Talk about SWEET!! I used it on my home network but I took it down as I was unable to connect my wireless laptop to my network shares behind IPCOP. Also, I added my neighbor to my network and wanted him to access my network shares. Seeing as how I couldn't afford the risk, or the spare router, I decided to remove IPCop. But it IS the best I've seen and the only one I recommend and trust.
Hmm...has anyone else had any problem with wireless shares when using IPCop? Well, in my case I would only need to make t=sure that ethernet shares work, but it would also be great if wireless shares also worked. Does anyone else have any reviews of IPCop (there are none in the LQ Reviews subsite)? Thanks,
