Small Linux distro for car mp3 player?

Im making a car mp3 player with an old Dell OptiPlex GS+ and am trying to find a linux distro which does the following:

*Boots and shutsdown really fast
*Main focus is as an MP3 player
*Has support for Matrix Orbital VFD to output song info
*Has support for a custom made control panel (eg. something like this)
*Supports WiFi cards (so I can transfer MP3's onto it)

Any distro's like this?

Lightbulb Great Idea!

I dont know of any distru's like this, however I dont think it would be that difficult to make a kernel for it. If you have the hardware for the device, you can probably install any flavor of Linux on the device with minimal applications installed. This can be accomplished via a serial connection with terminal emulation software (ie hyperterminal). Then just install your mp3 software. I would suggest a motherboard/CPU/memory/serial/usb/sound/harddrive. Then you can use the usb interface on the device to plug a cdrom drive, WiFi card or hard drive into it. You will ofcourse need a version or build of the kernel that supports usb.

good luck, sounds fun.

That thought had crossed my mind. But Im not too comfortable with Linux. Ive used it a few times, but not done anything advanced.

But I will have a look and see what I can do
