I got the iso install for slackware 8.1 and when i try to install it, it gets to the point where i either hit ENTER or 1 to select keyboard, but it wont let me tpye any keys or hit enter so im just stuck there, but i can hit enter the previous screen(select kernel). Im using USB keyboard could this be why? i dont think it ism but im dumb so...
Also, whats another good distro of linux im looking for something offbeat, ive tried mandrake, redhat, suse(well i cant get their damn ftp install to work, they need to give out iso for gods sake), arch linux, and trying slackware.
Most likely its the usb keyboard. Try installing using a regular keyboard if available and then after you install slack, you'll need to configure your usb keyboard.
You should have read the Slackware insatall FAQ. It mentions to select a kernerl with USB support if you have a USB keyboard. That point were your keyboard worked was were you would have netered something like usb.i instead of using the default bare.i . And the question about searching for an offbeat distro. Try LFS www.linuxfromscratch.org.
