sendmail issue

Hi,

I 'm having an issue with sendmail. I 'm using Redhat 7.2 and sendmail version 8.11.6 -3. Now the sendmail services works perfectly. No issue with "telnet localhost 25 and 110".

The issue is, the sendmail server seems to want to re send multiple similiar mail that it received a any user to the recepient.

Meaning, some of my user seems to have been receiving email from the same send couple of times even after receiving it earlier to the point that the same e-mail is being received more than 5 times. The e-mails are the same e-mail from the same sender and are not spam e-mail and i 've filter out the fact of vireses and worms from the senders sides. not sure if anyone out there can help me.......

Thanks.

Firstly, how big is your mail queue, and how often are you processing it??? ( ie the -q option, usually 15min )
How many sendmail queue runs are running?

Is it completing its queue run in the allocated time?
If not, alter your /etc/rc.d/init.d/sendmail to lengthen this time.

Also I am a bit confused to the exact nature of your problem, is it simply mail from external which you are recieving multiple copies of? Is it occuring randomly for all users or only a select few?
If its only a select few you may want to check the aliases/virtusertable/.forward files to make sure nothing stupid is going on.

Sendmail can be a complicated beast, tracking this down will require you to check your sendmail logs, find the qid of one of the offending mails and grep for it in the logs... each qid should have been "accepted for delivery" only once. Check sending and receiving relays for affected mail...

I highly suggest you also get a copy of the "Bat" book from oreilly.
