Yes, I had downloaded that large manual and checked this there. There is not even a single time the word 'frugal' is mentioned. It details very well the standard methods of installation. But I know that salix can be installed in a 'frugal' mannner, in which all the files and folders from livecd are copied to a partition and the grub entry is placed so as to load and run the system.
But I presume you want something like Ubuntu's Wubi, that will put the stuff in a Windows file, with no partitioning? This thread should give you some ideas http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...-linux-657994/
but there doesn't seem to be a plain guide. I don't think it's a common procedure (except with Puppy and Ubuntu), probably because the live usb method is simpler.
