Sabayon Linux !!!!
Theres a new gentoo based distro in the neighborhood!
it comes in 4 flavors x86-mini x86 x86_64-mini and x86_64 This distro has all the beauty of gentoo, but comes easy for beginners. The dvd iso is insane!! it has almost any app you could want! 2 different office suites, over 15 different mediaplayers for your preference, comes with nvidia and ati drivers built into Xorg so you don't go through the hassle!! It has its own forum, and great support!! just visit www.sabayonlinux.org to see what you've been missing!! |
Yeah, SABAYON TOTALLY 'ROCKS!!'
It's one of those rare gems in the world of linux. THUMBS UP:cool: |
Sabyon is nice, but I couldn't get the CD to boot on my laptop. So I just stuck with Gentoo.

Looks OK. Might try it when I get a newer PC.

Hi, could I ask a dumb question? I'm using Mepis 6 and need xvkbd to type with. on the Mepis live cd, you can drag the binary over to the home directory in the ram drive and run it. On Sabayon live dvd it's missing a lib file Xaw3dsomething but that's ok. My question is now that Sabayon is installed, with the help of a friends typing, how do I install xvkbd? I know is in the portage tree, but kuroo doesn't list it. do I need to add gentoo mirrors or unmask something? Can you point me to how to do this? I've always wanted to try gentoo but the cli only works if you can type with a keyboard. Sabayon looks sweet!
Thanks Alvin |
It looks like xckbd isn't masked, so all you should have to do is run:
Code:
emerge x11-misc/xvkbd |
It worked!!!!!!! I'm now in Sabayon typing with xvkbd. Thank you!! But why doesn't kuroo list it? How do I have it list other stuff?
Thanks again. Alvin |
I'm glad you got it working.
All Sabayon is, is Gentoo installed through binaries instead of being compiled from scratch. I don't personally know anything about Kuroo, but anytime you need something you can Portage just like any other Gentoo user can. So all of the Gentoo documentation applies to you as well. So here is your first intro to portage: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handboo...?part=2&chap=1 Note that Portage dosen't have a gui frontend, not an offical one anyway. So don't be afraid to use the CLI it's good for you. |
I'm not afraid of the cli, I started with DOS 5.0, but gui's are nice just to brows packages. Thanks again.

Sorry to revive an old thread but since one was already open I thought it would be better than starting a new one
I've heard that there are Mini editions of Sabiyon Linux and Full editions, they both look pretty much the same to me what (if any?) differences are there Between the Full & mini editions? Jake |
From the Sabayon website:
SabayonLinux x86/x86-64 miniEdition, commonly called the "mini", is the CD release of the latest SabayonLinux x86/x86-64 DVD. The creation of this special version, has been made with an automatic script that shrinks down the whole chroot jail by removing every duplicated, useless or server-oriented package. The multimedia features of these special editions are kept intact. |
