RPM Database Rebuild

I'm having trouble with doing rpm --rebuilddb.

After I run the rebuild, I do db_verify Packages. I get:
Old or incorrect db version.
Packages: DB_VERIFY_BAD. Database verification failed.

I'm using RH9 with the version of rpm that came with it, 4.2

Any help?

You probably have a lock file in your database. Try deleting the database:

rm -f /var/lib/rpm/__db*

and then rebuild it:

rpm --rebuilddb

I tried that, (several times). Still get the error message

I am having the same trouble.

I do a rebuild and the __db* are not there.

I am at a standstill.

Help would be greatly appreciated!
