root password in knoppix 3.3
How do I set the root password in Knoppix 3.3?
|
From the Knoppix FAQ: http://download.linuxtag.org/knoppix/KNOPPIX-FAQ-EN.txt
Q: What is the root password? A: There is none; all passwords are locked by default. There are several sections you can read dealing with this subject in KNOPPIX/README_Security.txt. If you install it onto the hard drive you can create a root password. |
Do you mean install the entire distribution or just the home directory?

I would assume he means the whole distribution.

root password
To set the root user password in knoppix 3.3 .Boot up knoppix open the console and type "su root"to switch to user root, then type "kuser "and change the default password for user "root" .Of course if you are running a live disk the password wont be saved. To copy knoppix on a hard drive make a fresh FAT 32 partition and a small FAT 16 partition(to be used as a swap file partition later).Start the computer with the knoppix disk and type "knoppix tohd=/dev/hdd1" at the start up screen,This will copy all the files onto the scecified drive(hdd1 usually).Once the files have been copied knoppix will start up from the drive and you can take the cd out.To boot knoppix again from your drive without the cd you need to make a boot floppy disk, theres a boot floppy wizard located in the knoppix menu.
