RH 8.0 and 7.3 RPM package management - as good as apt?
Hi,
I heard from someone that lately RH package management is as good, or becoming as good as apt, automatically resolving all the dependencies etc. Has anyone used it, and how do I go about setting that up? For e.g. what if I want to download a new version of LyX (program I use a lot), how would I do it by just using the RPM package manager, and not going on to the LyX site and getting the binaries? I'd appreciate any help and/or pointers to websites. Thanks people, Cheers! |
RedHat has some update tool that it ships with for X. Do an ls /usr/bin |grep redhat, the name is like redhat-config-packages or something, but I forget the exact name. Check for anything that a) says RedHat in the front, b) has anything to do with packages, and c) may make a reference to updating (like it might be redhat-update-packages, but I haven't used RedHat in so long that I can't remember).
