RH 7.3 and Modem Volume
Recently installed RedHat 7.3 and everything is great except my modem. It works fine just that it makes a lot of noise dialing my isp. I have tried turning the volume down (LOW) and off int the Gnome diapul thing (rp3/internet-druid) but this has no effect. The modem is an external US Robotics 56k and worked silently under RH 7.0 through 7.2.
Thanks |
add M0 to your init string, or adjust the knob on the side of the modem
|
My Modem on has a power switch (I had thought of that), but I have no idea how you:
add M0 to your init string |
· Gnome: run pppsetup
· wvdial: edit /etc/wvdial.conf · minicom: hit ^Ao (or possibly ALT-o), then select "Modem and Dialing" |
Tried adding the M0 (not MO?) using minicom, editing wvdial.conf and neat, all 3 ways results in a silent modem, but one that is not dialing out! So what now? Below is my wvdial.conf, which may help:
[Modem0] Modem = /dev/ttyS1 Baud = 115200 SetVolume = 0 Dial Command = ATDT Init1 = ATZ FlowControl = CRTSCTS [Dialer ntlworld] Dial Prefix = * Phone = * Password = * Username =* Area Code = * Stupid Mode = 1 Inherits = Modem0 Tried adding M0 in Init1, neat adds Init3=M0 after Stupid Mode. (I've obviously not included the password!) Thanks |
M0 = M zero
in wvdial.conf, add init2 = AT&F1&M0 on the line following init1. |
No joy, still screaming (me and the modem) when dialing the isp.
Oh well |
that should have been, AT&F1 M0 no ampersand infront of the M0, sorry.
|
Excellent, silence is now restored.
Cheers for the Help. |
