redhat 7.3 installing dependency

Hello, i have installed redhat 7.3, i tried to install program from a tar file, i did ./configure and found i needed some other file gcc etc. I would also get this thrying to install other normal rpm files

I tried to install some the files but would get .......needs file xyz.

Now with suse, mandrake the package manager would automatically install dependency files, how can i get redhat to do this?

Mandrake 8.2 is crap and won't recognise hardware (8.1 would), suse is beyond budget at the moment but may try and raise funds.

Doesn't kpackage (KDE package manager) do this automatically? Or was it the GNOME package manager? Can't remember... I resolve my dependencies manually.

Why didn't you install gcc?! Linux without gcc is like Windoze without the GUI. :p

You won't get a distro to install packages for you if you are installing a gz file...

However, if kpackage should take good care of you..
