Woa jeremy, are their Boxed CD's price getting inflated or what? $59.95 MSRP! and you know stores like CompUSA and Fry's are going to inflate that price some more!, so who ever buys it will be paying around $75 easily for the personal version.
It's rather similar to 7.2, only for the XFree 4.2 upgrade for video conferencing, some extra printers supported, USB upgraded, Apache upgrade, and kernel. Nothing really to die for however. zLinuxz |
Doing a 7.2 to 7.3 upgrade.
Has anyone ever used the 'upgrade' option in the red hat
install disks? I'm debating about trying RH7.3 7.2 is uber buggy. Rob |
I did upgrade from 7.1 to 7.2. It worked fine, and I got to keep all my files!, :D

wonder why they didn't hold on till gnome 2 was out...

I wonder if anyone knows if RH 7.3 has fixed the issue of the cpp 2.96- the gcc preprocessor - which is not ansi C-compatible

But Gnome is still the default desktop, or?? Also, does v7.3 contain any other window managers like Sawfish, Enlightment, Window Manager, etc...? Don't remember seeing any of them in v7.2  And what about Mozilla 1.0?? |
Does it crash on install like 7.2?
Personally, my fingers are badly burnt by the number of bugs in 7.2 - needless to say I'm giving 7.3 a miss.

I just installed 7.3 and everything works great!

I am really new to linux and have redhat 7.2 and am downloading 7.3 and I was wondering, what is better and easier to use, mandrake or redhat 7.2/ .3? My main concerns are using PengAOL (or some kind of aol connection) and networking the linux machine with my win 98SE computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

redhat is the best
Hi , guys , well I am running redhat 7.3 I just pay 3 dollas for the cds that I have, and tons of tons of bugs were fixed, and yes the upgrad workd fine for me. I have been upgrading from 7.0 and so fal only once after upgrade the gnome taks bar crahes thas all. and redhat 7.3 is no just the new xfree upgrade it has more that new drivers, and bug fixes, the new boot works faster, kde 3 is kiking h... and of course the robustness of redhat, I was trying mandrake 8.2 ( oficial release) for a wile, but I was not happy wiht all the bugs, and problems that I experience wiht mandrake, very gui, and user friendly but nees more work in the core, redhat so far lacks of drivers, and wizards, but his core is just amazing, ( very much a Unix - linux cross over)
so I am very impress wiht the new red hat. |
Upgrading/Installing Red Hat 7.3 from ISO image
I am perplexed. I am hitting a brick wall with installing RH 7.3. I downloaed the ISOs and did an MD5 on them. They checked out. I burned the images into CD-ROM and did a media check on them. That went OK. I then tried to upgrade the laptop from 7.2 to 7.3 (Compaq Presario 1825). Ran ok until it hit a particular package, then it threw up the dialog box: "The file ... cannot be opened. This is due to a missing file, a bad package, or bad media. Press <return> to try again." Pressing return again and again does nothing. Then I hit Ctrl-Alt-F4 and saw: <7>ISO 9660 Extensions: RRIP_1991A <hdb> irq timeout: status=0xd0 { Busy } <4>hdb: ATAPI reset complete <4)hdb: tray open <4>end_request: I/O error., dev 03:40 (hdb), sector 253 I am totally perplexed. The drive tray is fully closed, and this is the 2nd CD that it did it on. Nothing I try seems to fix the problem. So, I rebooted the laptop, then tried a compete reinstall. Same problem, but this time a different file. Reset the laptop, and did a plain vanilla install. That worked. Now, thinking it was the laptop's CD-ROM drive that was flaky, I tried installing it on my tower. Burned new CDs, verified the media, and off we go. Did upgrade mode on the tower from 7.2 to 7.3 Hit same problem, different file, on the 2nd disk. Any ideas? The CD verified as fine on the same drives I am using for the install. MD5 checked clean. Tried 2 different computers with the same failures. What gives? Help! -Flajann  |
