Red hat 7.2 root filesystem problem

Free disk space shrinks until reboot.

If a df -v on the root filesystem is peformed the disk space used is much larger than a du -sc * from the root directory.

When the computer is rebooted the disk space is reflected correctly but begins to accumulate used space until the next reboot.

This machine has been in service for about 2 years. This problem showed up 2 weeks ago.

Any suggestions regarding correction of the problem would be greatly appreciated!

free disk space on root fs shrinks till reboot

I found a log file for a product we installed on the machine.
It was huge. When I initialize the file and invoke the product
my df -v output resets itself to correct blocks used.
I will contact the software vendor to find out if we have an
installation problem or otherwise.

Thank you for your help !!
