Questions about Slackware 8.0

Ok this is all i got done now. I have it default into my gui and fixed my screen rez problem. now i have the questions how do i fix these issues i am having. Like i have 2 ide cdroms and when i check in the /mnt area it doesnt see anything not even my disk drive. Then I dont think i have sound in my gui i have a sound blaster live! do i need to download a driver or something to get it to work? Outside of those issues i have leared a whole lot more about the linux os that i never knew. Thanks for the guys that suggested it.

for your cdrom
I think it is lik this :
IDE:
ide1 master hda
ide1 slave hdb
ide2 master hdc
ide2 slave hdd
SCSI:
/dev/scd0
/dev/scd1
..

to mount a cd:
# mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdd /cdrom
iso9660 is a filesystem (there are more)
/dev/hdd is the drive
/cdrom is dir to mount it in

For sound you could use oss if you can`t get tof fix it in the kernel your self.

The /mnt directory is only a mountpoint. In order for anything to be seen in any subdirectory the device needs to be mounted (and the subdir needs to exist already). The fstab file (in /etc) holds information about where the various partitions/devices should be mounted and what parameters to use. You should read up on the man pages for both mount, umount and fstab.

As for the sound, try typing modprobe emu10k1

Here is my /etc/fstab, two hard drives, devrom, cdrw and a floppy. I don't mount them in /mnt
Code:
/dev/hdb2 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/hda1 / reiserfs defaults 1 1
/dev/hdb1 /home reiserfs defaults 1 1
none /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/hdc /dvd iso9660 ,users,noauto,ro 0 0
/dev/scd0 /cdrw iso9660 ,users,noauto,ro 0 0
/dev/fd0 /floppy vfat ,users,rw,noauto 0 0
