Problems with the SuSE 9.1 Personal installation
Ok I am trying to install SuSE 9.1 Personal ISO that I downloaded from the Net.
I configured the installation to dual boot with Linux and everything went fine until it told me to reboot my system. When it did it took me into LiLo and then it loaded Linux. It was a white on black console window because it could not find a bootsplash. At the very bottom it said something about trying to load old root and Kernel Panic because it was not able to find Initrid or something like that. I am really lost since I have tried everything. Anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong. |
Anyone have any idea what is going on? I see 41 views but 0 replies. Could it be that my installation is corrupt?

A kernel panic usually means that something went very wrong. You can try to fix this, but if there's nothing worth to keep in this new install, I would suggest you reinstall it.
Did you check the integrity of this iso you downloaded from the net? Maybe some transfer corruption happened, and you have a bad install media. |
I used the ISO from SuSE's website and I tried reinstalling several times. I guess I will try again with a new CD.

There's a tool called md5sum, aimed at checking the integrity of files. You have to compare the md5sum output provided by suse with the one in your computer. This way you can make sure both files are identical, and reliable. If they are not, you have to donwload again.
Bad files have proven to be one of the main sources of install problems. |
I cant find the md5sum produced by SuSE does anyone have a link to it?
