problem installing Mandrake 9.0

i've recently been trying to install Mandrake 9.0 on my system. During the installation it comes up with the menu first asking if I want more options by pressing F1 or install pressing ENTER as it should do.

A few minutes later (before stage 2) it comes up saying that it can't find CD-ROM device, and then goed on to ask me which driver I would like it to use to load a SCSI cdrom.

I'm not sure why it does this as I don't have SCSI drives they're IDE, I'd understand it thinking they were SCSI if they were on my RAID channel (not actually being used as RAID) as windows does but they're not.

I've also tried running the setup from DVD-ROM instead of my writer (which usually get's used as my ROM as well)

I know it's not the actual disc thats causing the problem as it installs fine on my laptop.

Any suggestions on how to sort this out would be appreciated.

i have, but none of my main pieces of hardware are listed which means they're all untested (i assume).

i've just found that if I disable the ATA/RAID channels on my system (my cdroms aren't on them) then the installation will progress past that point.

is there anyway to get the installer to not be fussy about my Promise ATA/RAID controller being turned on so that I can still use my 2 extra ATA channels?

or is there someway to get it working once Linux is installed?

Probably there are some modules that need loaded and some configurations changed. I'm not sure if all the stuff you need to do can be done by harddrake after install or not. Maybe someone more familiar with raid and mandy will answer with something specific. I don't have raid, myself.

You may have to do some hand configuring of files and Mandrake only has vi, so make sure you install midnight commander. You can use that by commanding mc and using the editor by selecting the file you want to edit and hitting F4.

my Promise ATA 133/RAID controller is onboard and according to the gigabyte website is called: PDC20276 RAID

for the drivers, is it saying that you have to install them, or is it asking if you need to install them. the simple change in that wording can be over looked. i know when i installed, it asked me if i needed to install any drivers? since i don't have a scsi or raid i said no.

take a look at it again. it could just be a simple overlook on your part. if you do want to load you raid controler drivers, find out if the manufacturer has ones that are compatable with linux and then click on yes. mandrake should ask you where you want to load them from, either a cd or floppy should work.

I had to build a kernel and the Highpoint 'opensource' drivers to use my onboard hpt372 as an extra ide controller until Alan Cox's ide patches from 2.4.20-ac1 were merged into Mandrake's kernel at about 2.4.21-pre2q1. 9.1 beta3 allows me to use this controller with a couple of jbod hard drives attached w/o problem. I don't know if these patches have a similar benefit for your controller but you might want to try installing a cooker kernel.

if i get the latest RC2 release of mandrake 9.1 , will it install onto my hpt372 RAID0 array ?

I'm writing this from rc 2 installed to the hpt372 but I don't have any experience with raid arrays. I have seen posts to cooker that you can't install to a raid but can create one after install on that controller with software raid at this point. Here is an example.

:( my raid array is runnign windows xp with 20gb of unpartitioned space on the array i want to install mandrake too, gues i cant, i hope they fix this soon
