Picking a lightweight distro

I have an intel-based computer in a client-server environment that I'm considering running Linux on. Currently, all or our client PCs run various versions of windows and log onto a server that has the needed applications and data. This setup causes confusion for several end users who don't understand the concept of a client desktop and a server desktop. So I'm looking for a way to make the client operating system invisible to the end user. I was thinking of using a lightweight Linux distribution, maybe something command line based, that I can use to run the server connection software on startup. There would be no printers, scanners, or other peripherals, just a mouse, kb, and I would need network connectivity. I'm new to Linux but I have a background in programming so I feel I could pick it up quickly. If you have a suggestion for a distribution that would fit my needs, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

not exactly sure if this is what you are looking for, but
http://bengross.com/smallunix.html

has links to some rather small linux/unix distributions :D

Thanks for the link. I'm not sure if any of those will work but it does give me a better idea of what I should be looking for.
