Office 2000 - SuSE 9.1 Pro

Okay... I previously posted about WINE not letting me install O2K... I have now completely uninstalled wine and all the traces of it (to the best of my knowledge)

Does anyone else have Office 2000 Professional running under SuSE 9.1 via WINE... I don't want to use CrossOver because I want to learn the configuration "the hard way" or whatever you want to call it...

Any help with what wine version to use and how to configure it?

* P.S. - I installed StarOffice 7 (It's free to download if you're a "student or educator") and it's really not much different than OpenOffice (Yes Iknow it's based on OO) It's nice though... But I really need M$ Office for work...

There's a tutorial about that right here:

http://frankscorner.org/index.php?p=office2000

perhaps using the same version of wine that they used on that page should help too...

Regards!

It's not just about configuration, regular WineHQ may suffer random regressions in Office functionality. For instance current releases won't install unless you override MSI.

There's not much point in making things hard for yourself, unless you want to become a Wine developer.

Thanks MegamanX, I did get it working, I have another post in here under which I described how. I couldn't find the version of wine he said he used, as there are only 3 versions available for download, all more recent.

But the good news is, I got it working, thanks.
