I dont think that this would be very good...

It is often proved that acquisitions and merges take time (from months to years) to reach a good productivity level than that before the merge...

What I'd really like to see is financial support for more distos like Mandrake and Slackware.

the artilce stated that ibm is truly thinking that linux will be the future in the server market.

I am willing to make a bet that Linux will have a strong share on the server market.
But there are other fields in which Linux needs support (financial, skills etc).
Like the desktop and the embeded devices or what ever the future holds.
My opinion is that we need at least 3 powerfull distros and many smaller ones.
We want IBM as a strong supporter. Not to buy out all the distributers and centralise everything.
Anyway, IBM likes Linux a lot.
It helps to steal market share from Sun and give a hit now and then in MS.

PS: Didn't read the article. When they want to move like that , I'm certain that it would be frontpage news everywhere. They love attention. Its good for the stock price.
