No grub.conf file generated in RH9.0

The whole installation went really smooth except I can't boot without passing "init" and "root" parameters on startup. I found my grub.conf file and it's empty. It's flashing red when I view it in a directory listing (don't know the color scheme). That would make sense why it doesn't boot, but if the file is empty then why do I even have a bootloader menu on startup? If i pass the parameters "init=/boot root=/dev/hda2" it works fine. How can I get it to startup on it's own?

In which directory are you looking in?

If you are looking in the /etc directory, the file is actually a link that points to /boot/grub/grub.conf
If this link is flashing red, it means that the link is broken and there is no file at the other end.

So in the /boot/grub directory, do you have a file called grub.conf

To get more details, open a terminal window, go to the /boot/grub and type: ls -sla

Thanks for the input, but it never fails that I fix the problem as soon as I ask the question. I didn't have a /boot/grub directory by the way. The only thing in my /boot directory was "kernel.h". I simply did a complete reinstallation and it works now.
