Newbie cannot find Mandrake Control Center

Hi, I just installed the Mandrake 9.1 but I could not find the Mandrake Control Center. According to the manual pages, it states that the MCC should be in 2 places: desktop, and the menu. I cannot locate it in either place.

I don't know if this would have a relevance but when I logged into KDE for the first time the system the hard drive kept going right after the "Initializing Devices"(or similar msg). When this happened for about 35 minutes straight, I reset the system and was finally able to see the KDE desktop. I am theorizing that the reset caused a part of KDE initialization to break down and hence I have no Mandrake icons(or just about anything non-KDE).

So here comes the main question: is there any way to just install the Mandrake Control Center(from rpm perhaps)?

Thanks in advance!

Run drakconf from a terminal.

DrakConf was not installed. Installed using urpmi drakconf

Another forum helped me out on this. Thx for the response.

Locura - yes, i got it to work.

skyline - maybe i wasn't clear. It wasn't in the configuration or any of the other menus.

I had to install it manually using "urpmi drakconf."

I have the same problem in so much as MCC was installed but dissapeared after installing some software. I have tried a number of suggestions but to no avail. When I go to a terminal window and change to root using su and then put "urpmi drakconf" the response is "urpmi unknown".

Am I entering this correctly or should I be doing something else. I also get the same with "urpme drakconf".

If anyone can assist before I throw in the towel and reinstall (which I would hate to do as its admitting defeat) this newbie would be very grateful.:newbie:
