When is someone going to release a distro that builds everything from CVS (or appropriate RCS)?
Instead of maintaining updates, the update process is simply a matter of pulling the source from CVS, and (if updated) building it, and (if successful) installing it.
It would basically just be a framework for developers. A debuggers dream come true!
You wouldn't need much in the way of staffing or bandwidth (just for distribution). You simply need to develop an installer application which would just install the kernel, a shell, and various RCS programs. And a centralized program that simplifies pulling sources from CVS (like jhbuild or a lite emerge).
Talk about hardcore. And maybe the most minimalist distro ever.
What's stopping you from doing it? Rather than throw out an open ended question, why not post to say:
"I would like to see a version of Linux that builds entirely from CVS. I have started doing it and would like to ask for help".
I was just hoping to spur some comments about a project like this -- if a similar project/distro already exists, what people would like to see in it, etc.
