new 4 linux which distributions 4 me ???
 

i just start with Linux this week for the first time , P200 ,2GB disk
which dist. fit me :
1- very easy to install
2- powerfull GUI (no need for councel at all)
3- abel to change the GUI (some kind of skins)
4- most of the activity will be Multimidea & divx
5-user friendly and flaxible to add-on or re-config or update
what do you think about that ???????:confused:

100% absolutely Mandrake 8.0. Definitely totally userfriendly, does a hell of a lot of hiding of ugly things.

But why do you want to use linux if you don't want to use CONSOLE at all?

Mandrake comes with 9 different Window Managers the more complex of which are managed by a bumber of different smaller managers, each of which has a whole bunch of skins.

But there's no way you're going to get linux going properly if you refuse to get your feet wet. As far as Divx goes, i've not managed to get it working, and you will DEFINITELY need to learn some console stuff to install that.
Maybe you'll learn just how handy and convienient console programs can be. OK, you don't get java and all the fancy stuff but text web browsers like lynx load in like.. 2 seconds as opposed to over 20 for netscape.. sooo fast.

2GB really won't go very far tho, esp with mandrake. All the pretty things get very expensive with hard drive space. your installation will probably take up at least half of the space. I installed M8 two weeks ago, and i've installed next to nothign, and have used 1.8Gb already.

And the P200 really ain't gonna run linux all that well, esp mandrake. But you've not really got that much choice if you want it all to look pretty, maybe redhat, but that's only a little different

Agreed, Mandrake but like acid_kewpie said above, with a P200 and only really wanting a nice GUI, its not gonna be that fast, or as fast as you would like it..... but yeah, Mandrake would be the easiest and is the easiest for :newbie: 's
