Need help with libXpm stuff (newbie here)

I'm running Windowmaker in Mandrake 9.1 and I've tried a few different dockapp installs and through trial and error i'm slowly getting the grasp of what's going on. However I haven't been able to get ONE dock app to install and run successfully. I came close with wmclockmon-0.2.2 but when i ran ./config it tells me the following (after doing a load of other stuff successfully):

checking for XpmCreatePixmapFromData in -1Xpm...no
The libXpm library was not found, but is necessary to build this library

How do I resolve this and what are a few basic rules to remember when installing any dock app in Mandrake 9.1 (if any apply).

Thanks,

Wop "you'll get used to my quotes"
