Need Help Deciding on a Distro

I've used Slackware, Knoppix, and I've tried to use Mandriva 2007 free with little success.
I love the freedom and control I have over the OS that slackware provides and I love the ease of knoppix, but I want to find a happy medium, a Linux distro that is as easy to control as Slackware but as easy to learn as Knoppix.
I've been looking at Red Hat or Fadora, but I don't know much about them aside from the little i've read and heard.
So I guess to sum it up, I would like to know which distro has an easy learning curve, the power of slackware, and can easily run DVD programs, Wine, and other types of programs.

The best thing is just to keep trying different ones. We can't answer as subjective a question as which distro you'll be comfortable with. They're all pretty much the same.

...and I wonder why so many of the ubiquitous "which distro" threads wind up in the LFS forum.

I was assuming this was a general distro forum, not a specific one.

Perhaps all the "which distro should I use" threads always end up here because "from scratch" may be being understood as bringing the user, not the system (as intended) from ground zero...
Well, now not to leave this question unanswered I'd recommend Ubuntu (Kubuntu if you prefer KDE instead of Gnome, as I do. I think I found this "happy medium" in Kubuntu, give it a try.

Thanks, I'll check it out :)

Kubuntu

PCLinuxOS .92

ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/metalab/distr...glish/preview/

This is the distro I use and recommend, Why because it works right out of the box. No need to configure Everything, everything just works. It also comes as a 1 CD install that is a live CD that you can install later if you wish.

if your still unsure of the distro try these Distro choosers:
