Need ColdFusion Support
 

i know that's a rather backward way of saying it-- of course, the Adobe product sould support more distros, but it simply doesn't.

i'm a Fedora Core 5 newlywed-- and it's my first Linux experience as well-- and i'm liking it a lot-- but i need to be able to develop web applications in ColdFusion 'from home', but right now the only way i can do that is to go back to my XP box-- which we know is a pain in the ... neck, and not the preferred situation.

i'm looking for anyone out there who is running ColdFusion on your Linux system who is doing so w/out any trouble. What distro are you using? What do you recommend i download for this project?
i was really impressed w/ the ease of d/l and installation i experienced w/ Fedora, so i'm hoping (i guess you'd say expecting) for it to go as smoothly.

anyone have a suggestion, or general commentary about it? thanks very much!

ColdFusion is a enterprise-level server setup and as such, I'm assuming Adobe is only supporting enterprise-level distrobutions. My first suggestion would be try and get your hands on an old machine and install CentOS on it then you should be able to install any RHEL packages on that no problem.

Other than that, Google doesn't seem to have much in regards to CFMX and Fedora 5, there are a couple of links relating to installing it on FC4, maybe see if one of those will apply?

how about it!? kinda crazy-- but i guess people just know well enough not to bother with it... eh-- i guess cfml isn't the most popular scripting language on the planet either-- even for windows.

but, the good news is that there's really nothing to it (CFMX 6.1 ,not v7), although CFMX 7 wouldn't launch the installer, CFMX 6.1 installed w/out a hitch. having played w/ a few different CFML setups on Windows, i had some idea of what would be the result of selecting the different Server Config options provided by the CFMX installer.

Macromedia lets you have a copy of ColdFusion for free-- you're just not allowed to let anyone see your work! meaning-- only one connection at a time, and production use is strictly prohibited by the agreement policy thing.

so, if you're using Fedora Core 5, and all you need is a CFML Development server for testing your code (i.e. no one but you will have access to it), then install CFMX 6.1 with the built in JRun server. don't try to map it w/ WAR or EAR or J2EE -- just use the built in JRun and it's no sweat. i've read where people where having all sorts of problems w/ it not starting and such-- i would imagine that they are talking about, as you said cs-cam, the Enterprise, production servers, in which case it's a completely different animal-- which i have no need or desire to tackle. ;)

yes, definitely! always.
i may not have much useful to say very often in my contributions, rare as they are at that, but i do understand the point; the social/ educational reason behind a threaded forum, such as www.LinuxQuestions.org :) -- something i'm afraid is less the norm these days-- even among some forum admins. oh well. i suppose it's unavoidable that with growth comes change.

aside-- ya know, it's kinda funny-- but, if you think about it...via threaded forums, and lists, people have been in essence sharing and using "Social Bookmarks" for years!
funny how the public at large has been made to believe differently.
(realizing a "tag" of course is much easier to follow than a thread... but, you get the point... or am i nuts? am i REALLY stretching it there? hehe.)
