MySQL errors

Howdy folks out there... Don't know if this is the place to write but I'll give it a shot

Im running an MySQL Server on RedHat 9 (MysQL is latest version). To edit my server I use the Windows Software MySQL Front v2.5 fomr my Windows XP machine.

However when I try to connect to my Server it says that my Windowsbox don't have access there...

Now where in MySQL do I set which computers that are able to access it?

Please help

It's worth bearing in mind that giving people access to *.* will allow them to access the 'mysql' database tables within MySQL. This means they will be able to do anything from add new users to trash the server. If you want to give people access to just a specific database then you would use dbName.* instead of *.*. If you wanted to just give someone access to a table then you would use dbName.tableName. Have a read of http://www.mysql.com/doc/en/User_Acc...anagement.html

I'm sure that Turnip would agree that Isaac Newton's comment below sums up most of the people who are able to answer questions on the LQ forums.

ok so I screwed up big time trying to secure my server and setting some passwords... Now my sqladmin wont even let me login...

Is there anyway to reset the SQL Server to be exactly as it was when it came installed with RedHat 9 or do I have to reinstall the whole distb?

Im up for suggestions

There's a way that you can start the server ans not load the grant tables (the permission stuff)

Look here: http://www.mysql.com/doc/en/Resetting_permissions.html

thats useful if you've lost the root password

That way you don't lose your databases, and you can reset the root password.
