MX Linux (MX16) & Netgear Wireless Issue
Hey Folks,
I would have posted this on the MX Linux forum but have been having issues registering on their forum so I thought I would try LQ. I have just installed MX 16 on an old Dell desktop that does not have a wireless card. The owner of the machine does have a Netgear WNA3100 wireless adapter which was working on the old Win XP installed on the machine. Issue being is I can't get the WNA3100 to work with MX16 after using some tutorials for other distros I've found online. In fear I may have over done trying to get it work on my MX16 install, I re-installed MX16 and figured I would see if there are any tutorials or pointers user on LQ may have. Any help will be appreciated! |
dancoauto,
Welcome to LQ. The Netgear WNA3100 has a Broadcom wifi card. Broadcom cards can be “problematical” (polite term) in Linux. The good news is that MX’s stablemate antiX-16.1 automatically recognises and enables most Broadcom wifi cards. antiX is a lightweight Linux distribution specially designed for older, low-powered hardware such as this. http://antix.mepis.org/index.php?title=Main_Page Download the 32 bit antiX-16.1_386-full.iso: http://antix.mepis.org/index.php?tit...Page#Downloads antiX-16 FAQs: http://download.tuxfamily.org/antix/...FAQ/index.html To enable wifi after installation: Menu > Control Centre > Network > Network Interfaces (ceni) > wlan0 > follow wizard and give SSID/network name and wifi password. |
