multimedia distribution to make a hi-fi out of my computer

hello guys!

I think I've heard about a linux distribution which was oriented towards audio and video playing.
I need a hi-fi and I thought I could install that linux version on a computer to get what I'd like to have..

could it be a good idea?
what is this distribution?

thanks for your help in advance

I built my jukebox from LFS (linux from scratch)

I can play my .ogg files, CD's, movies ( avi, mpeg, asx, asf --etc)
with digital output fromm SB Live and a 6 speaker setup..........
I use mplayer for the movies AND I don't have ALSA installed at all.........
