Sorry to hijack the thread, but i happen to be interested in the very same thing as the op.
Some people think gentoo portage is inferior to freebsd ports, being slow, (because it's coded in python) buggy in comparison to freebsd ports, and also more likely to break things. I am not a coder at all and am just repeating what i read, and have never used either gentoo, freebsd, or crux.
I would like to try each but with limited bandwidth and with a reliance on mobile broadband, i have a few extra stumbling blocks that make me a tad bit hesitant.
What about the bsd ports, how does crux linux ports compare with bsds, specifically freebsd? Also if someone disagrees or agrees for that matter, with the comment about gentoo portage, please share.
