I think that this is the right place to place this...eventhough Mepis is built on Debian Linux
Anyway...
Hello,
I just finished installing Simply Mepis 3.3 on my hard drive (I got rid of Solaris 9...Mepis is a lot easier for me) and I have a question or 2:
1. I installed ProZilla and ProzGUI (using the Debian install files) and I'm pretty sure that they installed, I just dont know where to...where do installed files go? (I can see the files that they installed in the packet manager)
2. I want to install a "MSN Messenger" type program for linux...and I downloaded AMSN, but I could only install that source files...how can I compile it? Do I need speical files?

Mepis is good in putting the things in menus (under KDE) .. in case you can't find them ..here are some alternate
typically executables are put in /usr/local/bin .. you can look there first.
you can try "which package" and it will show you where it found the package, however it will only look in your PATH.
If yo are still stumped ..
Open Synaptic Package Manager ..(need to be root and all that) .. search for your package by clicking on the "search button I think)
It will show you all the packages with matching names and the one's that are installed are "green" .. right click on the package you want and you will see an option menu
that has "installed files" .. or something similar .. it will show you what all the files were installed and where they were put-into.
Alt-F2 and then type the program name in the popup box.
If you want to have feedback, then open the Konsole and type the name in there. Most of the time the name to start the program is the same as the package installed.
